Bath & West Lodge Park in Shepton Mallet has submitted a planning application to Somerset Council seeking approval to expand its site with 12 additional holiday lodges.

The proposed development would increase the number of units from 25 to 37 as part of a broader strategy to accommodate more visitors and contribute to the region’s tourism economy.

Originally granted planning permission in 2019, the park currently operates 25 lodges designated for holiday use, according to a report by Shepton Mallet Nub News

The expansion is positioned as a growth initiative aimed at enhancing the park’s offerings while supporting local economic activity.

According to the application, the increase represents a “relatively minor” addition to the site and is not expected to have a significant visual impact on the surrounding area.

For businesses in the outdoor hospitality sector, the expansion reflects a broader trend of caravan parks and holiday sites adapting to rising demand for staycations and long-term tourism growth.

Investing in additional accommodations can be a strategic move for operators looking to enhance revenue potential and improve occupancy rates.

As more travelers seek premium, lodge-style accommodations, expansions like this may set a precedent for other park owners considering similar investments.

The application underscores the role of planning regulations in shaping the industry’s development.

Park owners looking to expand must navigate local planning policies, environmental considerations, and community feedback. Understanding these regulatory frameworks is crucial for businesses aiming to scale operations while maintaining compliance.

Stakeholders interested in the Bath & West Lodge Park expansion can review the planning details and submit comments via Somerset Council’s website under reference 2025/0217/FUL.
