German developer Crytek has deployed a huge update for Hunt: Showdown 1896, which fixes an eye-watering number of bugs and launches the Garden of the Witch event in tandem. Hunt: Showdown 1896’s Garden of the Witch is now live and sees the Brujas and the Welders battle against the Corruption. The game’s Dead Man’s Cut DLC is also out now, introducing a new Hunter and three arresting skins.

Hunt: Showdown first launched in full in 2019 before the updated version, 1896, was released in 2024 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles after support for last-gen platforms ended. Hunt: Showdown 1896 joins the best southern gothic horror games on the market, alongside Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Alone in the Dark, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and has seen some inviting collaborations in the past, including a union with the Scream movie franchise and singer Post Malone.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 ‘Puts its Own Stamp’ on Ghost Face

Game Rant sat down with developer Crytek to discuss how Hunt: Showdown 1896 adapts Ghost Face’s iconic look into its world.

Update 2.3 delivered several general updates to enhance gameplay, such as a base damage reduction on all silencers by 10%, the removal of Hand Crossbow Revive Bolt ammo, and a change for newly-recruited Hunters who will start with 10 Upgrade Points instead of 3 random Traits. The update also added a wealth of new equipment, including the 1865 Carbine Silencer, Mosin Obrez Match, and Mosin Obrez Sharpeye variants collected with the latest custom 1865 Carbine Subsonic Ammo, which joins Hunt: Showdown 1896’s best weapons list. Additionally, the devs noted that there were some unresolved major issues still being worked on, like rare crashes and freezes while loading into or out of a Mission.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 Releases Big Update 2.3 Alongside Garden of the Witch Event

The patch arrived in tandem with the Garden of the Witch event, welcoming a new type of Supply Point titled the Rare Supply, and new Pledge Mark mechanics including 2 PMs for Banishing the Boss Target in Bounty Clash, which will surely assist Hunt: Showdown 1896 players’ best Bounty Clash builds. Furthermore, players can enjoy event-exclusive Sealed Scarce Traits from past events, including the Blademancer, Corpse Seer, and Gunrunner.

Despite the negative backlash targeting August 2024’s release of a new engine upgrade and UI overhaul, Hunt: Showdown 1896 managed to set a new milestone and attract over 60,000 concurrent players during the controversy. Luckily, the recent March 2025 update is impressing the player base this time around with its abundance of new content and improvements, with some fans singling out the “insane” new skins up for offer in the DLC.
