Sia has filed for divorce from Daniel Bernad, her husband of two years, and the legal documents reveal that the two welcomed their first child together nearly a year ago.

Court documents, filed Wednesday in Los Angeles, were viewed by Entertainment Weekly. They cited a March 18 separation due to “irreconcilable differences.” The “Cheap Thrills” singer requested legal and physical custody of her child — Somersault Wonder Bernad, born on March 27, 2024 — but she indicated that she was open to visitation from the father. Sia asked that Bernad receive no spousal support.

Reps for Sia did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for comment.

The musician has two other adult children: sons whom she adopted in 2019, when they were 18. She married Bernad in December 2022. The private couple had a formal, candlelit ceremony with just six guests in Portofino, Italy, the following May.

Sia explained in a 2020 interview with InStyle she had undergone in-vitro fertilization treatments in the hopes of becoming pregnant with her first husband, Erik Anders Lang. The musician was married to Lang from 2014 to 2016.

“Eventually, we did get embryos,” Sia said, “but then we also got a divorce, so I wasn’t able to use them.”

She told the same outlet that she had “wanted to be a mom my whole entire life,” and she decided to adopt after seeing one of her future sons in a documentary about children in foster care. Then he asked her if she could adopt his cousin, who turned out to be his close friend.

Sia, 49, explained in June 2020 that her family had grown to include grandchildren. “My youngest son just had two babies,” she said on The Zane Lowe Show on April Music. “I’m just immediately horrified. No, I’m cool. They call me Nana. I’m trying to get them to call me Lovey, like Kris [Jenner]. I’m like, ‘Call me Lovey.'”

The Grammy-nominated artist released her 10th studio album, Reasonable Woman, in May.
