Solo Leveling has snatched the crown this week in a new streaming record for the hit fantasy anime series, surging past Shonen Jump-based powerhouses One Piece and Demon Slayer.

Boasting a 4.9-star average based on over 610,000 user ratings as of writing, Solo Leveling has overtaken One Piece and Demon Slayer to become the most-rated title on Crunchyroll, the world’s biggest anime streaming library. One Piece previously dominated the platform ratings with its expansive catalog spanning decades, while for some time, Demon Slayer held onto the number two spot, especially following its theatrical release success in 2020. Solo Leveling’s achievement comes after the premiere of Season 2, Episode 11 (Episode 23 overall), titled “It’s Going to Get Even More Intense,” just 14 months after the anime first debuted in January 2024.

Adapted from Chugong’s web novel, the series follows Sung Jinwoo, a low-ranking hunter who undergoes a sudden level-up after a near-fatal dungeon encounter. Since it hit the airwaves, the anime has been an undeniable smash hit. Solo Leveling Season 1 topped many best-of lists for 2024, including winning the Astra Award for Best Anime Series. Season 2 appears well on the way to achieving equal or even greater success and viewership, now sporting the coveted title of Crunchyroll’s most-rated anime series to date.

The substantial viewership and engagement for Solo Leveling‘s newest anime release is even more impressive considering Season 2, Episode 11 was the victim of an unfortunate leak days before its official March 15 release. The leak prompted a response from an A-1 Pictures producer, who expressed disappointment on social media, calling it “an act of betrayal to the creative staff and fans.” Despite this setback, as well as being one of the biggest series in the world for piracy in general, the show maintains an exceptionally strong viewership.

Nonetheless, as many anime fans have pointed out since the release of Solo Leveling‘s latest episode release, the show currently enjoys some advantages over the likes of One Piece and Demon Slayer; the latter series are both available to watch on other streaming services such as Netflix, while Solo Leveling remains a Crunchyroll-exclusive. One Piece has also been on hiatus since October 2024, although new episodes are finally set to air this coming April.
