Camping Àmfora in Sant Pere Pescador, Girona, Spain, has been recognized among Europe’s top four campsites, receiving the prestigious DCC Europa-Preis from the Deutscher Camping Club (DCC).

This recognition, presented at the Reise & Camping fair in Essen, Germany, underscores the site’s commitment to quality and sustainability. It marks the first time a Spanish campsite has earned this distinction, reflecting shifting consumer priorities and evolving industry standards.

The selection process for the award was based on guest reviews, highlighting the increasing role of customer feedback in determining industry benchmarks.

“This award is the culmination of years of dedication to sustainability and guest satisfaction,” a representative from Camping Àmfora stated in a report by Travel and Tour World.

Established in 1986, Camping Àmfora spans 12 hectares with direct beach access and offers a range of amenities, including renovated aquatic facilities, dining options, and entertainment.

Its appeal is further strengthened by its commitment to environmental sustainability, a factor that is becoming increasingly important in the outdoor hospitality sector.

The campsite holds ISO 14001 and EMAS environmental certifications, reflecting its dedication to reducing its ecological footprint. In recent years, the site has cut its water consumption by 60% and implemented energy-efficient systems.

A water reuse initiative repurposes water from pool cleaning for irrigation, setting a precedent for similar operations looking to enhance sustainability measures.

Camping Àmfora also prioritizes renewable energy, operating entirely on certified green electricity and utilizing photovoltaic solar panels that generate up to 15% of its seasonal energy needs.

“Our goal is to minimize environmental impact while maintaining a high standard of service,” the representative added.

For industry professionals, this recognition signals a growing expectation for eco-friendly operations in outdoor hospitality.

As travelers increasingly prioritize sustainability, campsites, and resorts that implement measurable green initiatives stand to benefit from both regulatory incentives and consumer demand.

This trend is reshaping the competitive landscape, making sustainability not just an ethical choice but a business imperative.

The success of Camping Àmfora highlights an industry-wide shift where environmental stewardship and guest experience go hand in hand.

With its latest accolade, the campsite serves as a model for others seeking to align with the future of outdoor hospitality, where sustainability is no longer optional but essential for long-term success.
