As it approaches two years since the second season finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds first aired on Paramount+, fans are anxiously awaiting word on when Season 3 will premiere. The second season of Strange New Worlds concluded in August 2023, and Paramount+ has not confirmed when Season 3 will air. However, per Trek Central, filming has already begun on Season 4 of the series, which follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
The outlet reports that the fourth season began filming on March 3 and is expected to continue until the end of July. Pre-production on Strange New Worlds’ Season 4 began in January. Strange New Worlds was given the green light back in April 2024.
The official Star Trek Instagram account also confirmed that filming for Season 4 is underway, posting a photo of stars Mount, Ethan Peck, and Celia Rose Gooding on March 3. The post was captioned: “Production on season four of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is officially underway!”

Updates on Season 3 Have Been Scarce
So far, there have not been many updates on Season 3 of the series since October 2024, when a three-minute clip with a scene from the premiere episode was shown at New York Comic-Con. Also at that time, it was announced that Rhys Darby of Our Flag Means Death would guest star sometime during the third season.
During a panel at the October Comic-Con, Strange New Worlds’ co-showrunner Henry Alonzo Myers touched on Darby’s role, saying he will play “a character that will be familiar yet completely new to folks that know Star Trek.” Myers added, “If you know Star Trek, you will have a lot of fun with him, and we had more fun than I could possibly imagine with him.”
Expect “Surprises” in Season 3
As for what viewers should expect in Season 3, Nami Melumad, who composes the music for Strange New Worlds, said that “surprises” are to be expected. However, Melumad said not to expect another musical episode a la Season 2’s “Subspace Rhapsody,” during which the crew of the Enterprise encountered an anomaly that made them confess their darkest emotions through song.
“There’s not another musical episode, but it’s a favorite season,” Melumad told Screen Rant. “I have a very high bar for Star Trek, and I really enjoyed it. There are very different genres there. There will be surprises. It’s not a musical, but there are surprises. Musically, it was also very challenging. Sometimes, we used a different ensemble, so maybe that’s a hint for what’s coming,” she said.
