St. Lucia is packed with jaw-dropping scenery from the dramatic Piton Mountains to lush rainforests and stunning waterfalls. While its landscape alone sets it apart from other Caribbean islands, its rich Creole heritage and vibrant music scene create a cultural experience unique from the typical Caribbean getaway.

One of the best places to stay on the island is a property tucked between the iconic Pitons: Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort. Now, the 100-acre property added Spice of Life — a stunning new 35,000-square-foot villa with an infinity pool, direct beach access, and a museum-level art collection. (Its name is a nod to Sir Harold Mitchell, who authored a book with the same title and is the grandfather of the current owners of Sugar Beach.)

“Spice of Life is the most exclusive accommodation we have ever introduced at Sugar Beach, setting a new benchmark for ultra-luxury in the Caribbean,” said James Wyndham, managing director at Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort and vice president of brand experience and loyalty for Viceroy Hotels and Resorts, in an interview with Travel + Leisure. “While our resort is already renowned for its unparalleled service, breathtaking natural surroundings, and world-class amenities, this new residence takes privacy, space, and customization to another level.”

Designed by the renowned Botelho Wood Architects, the villa seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor living. Locally sourced wood and stone create a natural, earthy ambiance, while custom-made furniture in soft, muted tones allows the striking art collection to take center stage.

“Spice of Life is not just a place to stay—it’s a living gallery, home to one of the most expansive private art collections in the Caribbean,” Wyndham said. “Guests have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in world-class art without leaving the comfort of their accommodations, making their stay truly one-of-a-kind.”

Spice of Life’s impressive lineup includes works by legendary artists like Yayoi Kusama, Salvador Dalí, Banksy, Tom Sachs, KAWS, Anish Kapoor, and Damien Hirst, just to name a few. The villa itself was designed as a gallery, with carefully planned lighting, spacing, and color palettes that highlight each piece. “Each and every piece in the museum-worthy collection has been thoughtfully curated,” Wyndham added.

The artistic experience doesn’t stop at the villa, as Sugar Beach as a whole is home to one of the most remarkable resort art collections in the world. Guests can explore the resort’s 100-acre estate, discovering a harmonious blend of nature, luxury, and artistic curation at every turn.

Spice of Life can host up to 18 guests across its nine bedrooms. Each bedroom may vary in size, configuration, and art, but are unified with one constant: floor-to-ceiling windows guaranteeing uninterrupted ocean views.

The guest experience begins before arriving at Spice of Life, as Sugar Beach’s concierge and culinary teams curate a tailored dining menu and itinerary. While villa guests have access to all eight of Sugar Beach’s dining spots from the beachfront Jalousie Grill to the fine dining eatery Saltwood, they can request any of these restaurant menus to be recreated right in the villa.

Guests enjoy amenities like a dedicated concierge, on-property shuttle, airport transfers, access to the hotel’s Rainforest Spa and wellness center, and the newly opened Sugar Beach Racquet Club, which has tennis, padel, and pickleball courts with the Petit Piton as the backdrop. Though, the villa also features a private gym with Peloton equipment and outdoor showers that double as private spa spaces for ultimate relaxation.

Every Spice of Life stay includes a private fireworks show, along with personalized experiences like art lessons, private dining, and wellness retreats. Plus, there’s the Cocoa Mill, where guests can immerse themselves in the island’s rich chocolate-making traditions.

“Spice of Life is designed for the discerning traveler who values privacy, personalization, and unparalleled luxury. Whether it’s a family looking for an exclusive getaway, a group of friends seeking spacious accommodations, or a couple looking for a romantic escape, the residence is designed to accommodate every type of stay,” Wyndham said.
