It feels like almost as soon as Taylor Swift started dating Travis Kelce, the conversation turned to whether wedding bells were in the superstar couple’s future. Well, one person who’s never afraid to share his opinion has officially weighed in on the hot topic.
ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night, and he was asked to give his signature “hot takes” on a few topics, including whether the New York Knicks could win the NBA championship this year (“hell to the no”) or if he would be the next Democratic nominee for president (also a hard no). But there was one topic he was bullish on: Will Swift and Kelce get married this year?
“This is a hard one,” Smith said. “I’m scared to get this wrong.”
The commentator continued: “Travis Kelce, that’s my dog. I gotta tell you: A lot of ladies love Travis Kelce. Travis Kelce has loved a lot of ladies. But Taylor Swift’s a different animal. She looks good. She’s incredibly talented. And she’s worth about a billion. We’re going to guess a yes on this one,” he finally said, to wild audience applause.
Smith explained that when you find that trifecta of traits in a potential wife, you best not fumble. “That’s a three-headed monster that’s hard to turn down right there. That’s a hard thing to turn down. Look good, talented and you’re a billionaire?”
We’ll just have to wait and see whether Smith’s prediction turns out to be accurate. The couple has been public since September 2023, when Swift first attended one of Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs games, but she revealed in a TIME cover story later that same year that they actually started hanging out in July 2023, not long after Kelce attended his first Eras Tour concert. (You can find a full timeline of their relationship here.)
Smith has been vocal throughout their relationship, with the ESPN talking head defending Swift’s much-debated high profile at Kelce’s games and also arguing to Howard Stern that they don’t need each other for a career boost.
