RUMOR: Superman Test Screening Reaction Could Reveal Strengths (And Potential Weaknesses) Of James Gunn’s First DCU Movie

A thread on Reddit detailed a number of observations from a source who reportedly attended a recent screening of Superman.

Corenswet and his Superman co-stars Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult recently took the stage of the Colosseum at Caesars Palace to promote their movie. At the event, they were asked which other DC characters they wanted to portray. Corenswet did not hesitate and said, “Batman.” The Superman actor also shared an animated series where the two major DC superheroes — Batman and Superman — had a crossover. He expressed excitement about possibly adopting the story in live-action. Corenswet said, per GamesRadar:

I mean, I love the animated series when Batman and Superman switch spots. That would be fun to get to do at some point, James.

Corenswet was referring to Superman: The Animated Series, which originally aired on The WB from 1996 to 2000. One of its major highlights was the crossover called “World’s Finest” in 1997, featuring DC’s two most favorite superheroes — Batman and Superman. Bruce Wayne arrives in the Metropolis to do business with LexCorp and his arrival led to an unexpected clash with Superman. The two discovered each other’s secret identity and decided to work together against Lex Luthor. In the episode “Knight Time,” Bruce Wayne goes missing, and Gotham City falls into chaos without Batman. While Batman is away, Superman pretends to be the Dark Knight to keep criminals from taking over the city. However, Superman is much stronger than Batman, so some suspected him. Robin soon finds out he is not Bruce. However, Superman’s disguise is enough to fool the criminals. Robin and Superman work together and investigate where Bruce is; they find out Brainiac kidnaps him because he needs Wayne Enterprise’s advanced technology. He hijacks Bruce’s mind and the latter acts like a lifeless servant. Superman rescues Bruce and frees him from mind control. Then, they work together to beat Brainiac.

Corenswet is right that adopting the plot in live-action will be fun. The presence of the two superheroes dubbed the world’s finest, is enough to stir excitement among fans. Also, the crossover is interesting because it is a mix of detective work, action and teamwork. Superman investigates why Batman is missing and he deals with the criminals in Gotham while its superhero is away. He also collaborates with Robin and works with the Dark Knight against Brainiac. It shows the elements of good teamwork and how different Superman’s method is from Batman’s.

Clearly, Batman is stealthy and tactical. If Superman was missing and Batman had to search for him, he would surely use forensic science and surveillance to look for the Man of Steel. He would hack security cameras to check Superman’s last sighting because that’s his thing. While Superman can’t do what Batman does, the episode shows how straightforward and strong he is. The two superheroes are very different, but they complement each other and can work well together.

Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
