The CW’s The Flash has had many surprising things happen throughout its nine seasons. Now, its stars have revealed some things they did not see coming in the fan-favorite Arrowverse series.
Grant Gustin, Carlos Valdes, and John Wesley Shipp were part of The Flash‘s MegaCon panel, and the trio each responded to CBR’s question about what surprised them most in the show. “I didn’t know I would be Savitar,” the Flash/Barry Allen actor said about Season 3’s big bad. Savitar was a god-like speedster with a grudge against Barry. He tormented the hero and even murdered his future wife, Iris West. It is eventually revealed that Savitar is indeed an evil, scarred version of Gustin’s superhero in full embrace of his dark side.

‘The Only Reason I Did a Decent Job’: Grant Gustin Explains How He Kept The Flash Fresh
The Flash star Grant Gustin lends insight into how he kept the Scarlet Speedster fresh for nine seasons of the fan-favorite Arrowverse show.
Valdes, who plays the quippy S.T.A.R. Labs mechanical engineering genius Cisco Ramon/Vibe, revealed that an episode in The Flash‘s first season, which had consequences for his character, surprised him the most. “Season 1, our time episode,” he said, referring to the episode “Out of Time,” in which the season’s main antagonist the Reverse-Flash/Eobard Thawne, disguised as Harrison Wells, Kills Cisco to protect his secret and nefarious plot against Barry Allen.
Shipp, who debuted in The Flash as Barry’s father, Henry Allen, revealed he was most surprised when he discovered he would also portray another iconic character. In the second season of The Flash, the evil Earth-2 speedster Hunter Zolomon/Zoom seeks to eliminate all other speedsters in the multiverse. To achieve this objective and infiltrate Barry’s team, he steals the identity of Earth-3’s Jay Garrick/The Flash, whom he imprisons clad in an iron mask. The real Jay Garrick is revealed to be Henry Allen’s multiversal counterpart.

The Flash Actor Discussed His Connection With His Co-star
Shipp starred as the titular DC character in the 1990s CBS The Flash series before returning to play Gustin’s father, Henry, the alternate universe Flash Jay Garrick, and Earth-90’s Barry Allen in the Arrowverse. The veteran actor touched on his long involvement with the franchise and his instant bond with co-star and fellow Flash, Gustin.
“35 years. As many years as Grant Gustin has been alive,” he said, addressing his tenure as the Crimson Comet. “It was an immediate connection. This is a guy who’s a truthful actor. He knew I’d been the Flash, and I knew what he was taking on,” Shipp added.
The CW’s The Flash is streaming on Netflix.
