Jamie Campbell Bower is trading Hawkins for Middle-earth.
On Thursday, Amazon Prime announced that the Stranger Things star has been cast in the upcoming third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. While his official role was not disclosed, Bower will serve as a series regular on the show, which is currently in pre-production and set to begin filming in the U.K. this spring.
Joining the actor on his quest is Eddie Marsan, who has also been cast in an undisclosed recurring role for next season.

Bower is no stranger to the world of fantasy, having played the nefarious Vecna/001 on Stranger Things, Gellert Grindelwald in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises, and a member of the Volturi in the Twilight saga. He was also famously attached to star in a Game of Thrones spinoff alongside Naomi Watts before it was ultimately canceled by HBO in 2019.

The series — which would’ve seen Bower and Watts star alongside Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, and Josh Whitehouse — even shot a pilot in the summer of 2019. In the end, HBO chose not to proceed with the project and to instead focus on its prequel series, House of Dragon.
A logline for the show read: “The series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

Bower reflected on the show being shuttered in a 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Everything happens for a reason,” he said at the time. “I don’t think anything happens by chance. At the time of that spin-off not working out, of course, it’s sad. Of course it is.”
However, he noted that when one door closes, another opens. “This was always there,” he added, referring to his Stranger Things role. “This was coming. I just didn’t know.”
