- Possessing various abilities such as flight, immortality, and Ultra Instinct, Grand Priest enforces the laws of the Angels.
Introduced in Dragon Ball Super, Grand Priest — otherwise known as Grand Minister in the English dub — is a small-sized character that eerily resembles that of the Universe 7‘s Angel, Whis. Working in an advisory role to Zeno for thousands of years, Grand Priest is as strong as he is wise, and is not only feared by mortals, but the Gods of Destructions too.
Unlike the Kais introduced in the Dragon Ball lore, Grand Priest isn’t known for aiding in battles, nor does he serve as a mentor to those looking to become stronger. Instead, Grand Priest remains by the side of Zeno and fulfills his duties as advisor, though there is more to one of the most powerful characters in the story.

Who is Grand Priest?
Possibly the Most Overpowered Character

The Grand Priest is introduced in Dragon Ball Super during Episode 55, titled “I’d Like to See Goku, You See A Summon From Grand Zeno!” Serving as a loyal advisor to Zeno, the Omni-King and ruler of all the multiverse, the Grand Priest is not someone to be taken lightly. Despite his small stature, there is a power unlike anything seen before him, and likely never to be replicated.
Known in the anime as one of the top-five strongest fighters in all universes, and recognized as the strongest in the manga, Grand Priest is supremely gifted in combat and carries with it a high intellect. Grand Priest is also the father to all thirteen angels, including Whis. Despite his calm demeanor and politeness towards those that address him, it would be wise to tread carefully and not disappoint him, as Whis and Shin remind Goku during his introduction to the character.
Many would be deceived by his appearance, but when it comes to fighting prowess, the Grand Priest is considered to be in the top five among all the universes.
Stronger Than Angels and Gods
Just Who Can Defeat Grand Priest?
Upon his summoning to meet with Zeno, Goku remarks on how much pressure Grand Priest is giving off and is quite surprised by his power. Unable to resist the urge, Goku exclaims to Whis that he would love to battle Grand Priest some day, only to learn that he is one of the five strongest people in any universe. In fact, Whis also states that even the Angels and Gods of Destruction are no match for him.

Did Dragon Ball Daima Just Retcon Zeno-Sama?
Dragon Ball Daima just dropped some crucial lore that reveals the multiverse’s creation, and its “highest authority”, and it isn’t Zeno.
In the manga, Grand Priest is shown in combat when two Gods of Destruction engage in battle with him. To the reader’s surprise, Grand Priest is able to block their attacks by using just one finger. Though he doesn’t take these battles seriously, as his job is to observe and make sure the natural flow of events is respected, one could believe that he could erase anything he sees as a threat, should he take a fight seriously.
Abilities of Grand Priest

While his power may not be showcased as much in the anime compared to the manga, Grand Priest has a tremendous amount of power and abilities that would send shivers down the spine of the strongest fighter. No Angel, God of Destruction, or mortal aware of his existence dare challenge him in combat, as they would be easily erased from their timeline in a matter of moments. Among his abilities are the following:
- Flight – As with most characters in Dragon Ball, Grand Priest is capable of flight.
- Immortality – Grand Priest is imortal and cannot be killed, but is not prone to erasure, should he break the “Law of the Angels”.
- Ultra Instinct – As an Angel, the Grand Minister remains in the Perfected Ultra Instinct state at all times. Due to this, Grand Priest is able to detect and dodge any threat without the need to be aware of it, and has an advanced mastery over the form compared to the other Angels and Goku.
- Portal Opening – In order to move between universes, Grand Priest is able to open and close portals, and move them to his desired destination.
- Magic Materialization – With a high degree of magic in his ability, Grand Priest can materialize anything he can think of. This includes several objects in the Power of Tournament. He is also capable of increasing or reducing the size of any object.
- Divination – Using a crystal ball, Grand Priest can see into any timeline, and witness an event happening at any time.
- Kai Kai – With the help of his Angels, Grand Priest can teleport the Angel and any being within contact of them to his location.
- Energy Shield – Grand Priest can create a powerful shield made from energy in order to protect him and anyone else he chooses.
- Eradicate – As seen with any Angel that breaks the “Law of the Angels”, Grand Priest can erase anything from existence.
- Resurrection – Grand Priest also has the power to revive anyone from death, including those that have been eradicated from existence.
- Trait Removal – In order to keep the peace and make sure no being becomes too powerful for their own good, Grand Priest can remove any trait from any being, including the power of a God of Destruction.
- Warp – Similar to Whis’ ability to move himself and Beerus to a desired location, Grand Priest can also warp, though he does so at much higher speeds compared to his fellow Angels.
Grand Priest’s Role in Super

The primary role of the Grand Priest is to serve by the side of Zeno, receiving orders to deliver messages to anyone that Zeno wishes to reach. He is also as wise as he is strong, as seen by his many discussions with Zeno, often delivering recommendations to Zeno that are respected by the Omni-King. While he may look to have bad intentions with his menacing gaze, Grand Priest is anything but evil.
As the creator of the thirteen Angels, Grand Priest must also observe and guide them to respect their roles in their universes. Angels are restricted from interfering in any affairs in the universe they oversee, which includes actively fighting or taking sides, and they must remain neutral. They also cannot use their full power to intervene in conflicts, even if it means saving their God of Destruction or any mortals, due to the “laws of the Angels”.
