  • President Trump’s tease of potentially seeking a third term in the White House incensed “The View” cohosts.
  • Sunny Hostin said she thinks Trump might try to change the Constitution to allow for a third term.
  • Former Trump associate Alyssa Farah Griffin said JD Vance might feel it’s “a little insulting” that Trump isn’t teeing him up for success.

The daytime TV queens of The View are standing firm against what many have cited as President Donald Trump‘s vision of himself as a king.

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg kicked off Monday’s live show with a Hot Topics discussion about Trump’s recent comments in which he floated the idea of potentially seeking a third term in the White House — despite the Constitution prohibiting anyone from holding the office more than twice.

“Um, is he actually planning on this?” Goldberg asked, predicting that this might be “just another way to take the headlines away from all the other messes” his administration is responsible for, including the recent controversy surrounding officials using the Signal app to discuss official operations.

“I think he’s so enamored of [Vladimir] Putin and so enamored with power that he wouldn’t mind being king with a crooked crown,” legal expert Sunny Hostin speculated, adding that, while she feels Trump might take the opportunity, she doesn’t know that “it’s something that can ever be accomplished” after the 22nd amendment was ratified in 1951, preventing more than two presidential terms for any one person. Still, Hostin felt that “doesn’t mean he’s not going to try” to change history in that context.

“No matter how insane, stupid, hare-brained, and lawless I think something he says might be,” Republican panelist Ana Navarro added, “I’ve learned the lesson of taking him seriously.”

Navarro then called him the “distractor in chief” and noted that she felt his discussions about a potential third term were a distraction tactic to divert attention away from recent scandals.

Cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin, who previously worked for Trump’s first-term administration, said that “he’s got this way of dangling things like this out there like catnip so certain corners of the media bite on it,” and went on to remind audiences that “in 48 hours, tariffs are going to go into effect that will cost all of us a lot of money.”

She also said that Vice President J.D. Vance might find Trump’s comments “a little insulting” because he’s “not teeing it up” for his political partner to take office after the end of the current term.

Goldberg closed the chat with a message for viewers who might feel that there’s no path to stopping Trump in the future.

“Do not wait for the politicians to get themselves together. It is up to us. Get out and vote. You don’t like what’s happening? Then stop what’s happening. Stop it. Get out there and stop it,” she said, later adding: “You’re not helpless.”

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
