Timothée Chalamet is manifesting.

The actor won his first major industry award at the 2025 SAG Awards when his name was called in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role category for his work on A Complete Unknown. After thanking his mother and paying tribute to the man he plays on screen, Bob Dylan, Chalamet announced, “I know we’re in a subjective business, but I’m really in pursuit of greatness. People don’t usually talk like this, but I want to be one of the greats.”

“I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight,” he continued. “I’m as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I’m deeply grateful to that. This [award] doesn’t signify that, but it’s a little more ammo, a little more fuel to keep going. Thank you so much.”

The Call Me By Your Name star began his speech to the Screen Actors Guild by “thanking my mother, who’s here with me tonight. She’s been working at Actors’ Equity for 40 years.”

Chalamet continued, “I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much this means to me, but the truth is this was five and a half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero. It was the honor of a lifetime playing him. It’s an honor I share with [Monica Barbaro], [Elle Fanning], [Edward Norton], and the rest of the cast, in a genre, doing a biopic that can be, perhaps, tired. Everyone gave it their all, so deeply grateful to them all.”

Chalamet plays the iconic musician through one of the most momentous periods of his career: the transition from an all-acoustic folk sound to using an electric guitar at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. Barbaro costars as fellow ’60s icon Joan Baez; Norton plays the folk legend Pete Seeger; and Fanning plays Sylvie Russo, an only slightly anonymized version of Suzie Rotolo, Dylan’s girlfriend at the time.

Chalamet continued in his tradition of wearing outfits that reference various Dylan looks through the years. This time, his neon green shirt and leather jacket called back to a quite nondescript look Dylan rocked at a 2018 appearance in Singapore.

A Complete Unkown, directed by James Mangold, is nominated for eight awards at the upcoming 2025 Oscars, including a Best Actor nod for Chalamet.
