Toei’s One Piece Gets Surprise New Anime Episode Release Starring Law & Luffy
The new One Piece short film has been uploaded online for fans worldwide following its premiere at MBS Anime Fes 2025. It features Luffy and Law on a stranded island, waiting to be rescued by their comrades. Of course, things are never that simple. As the two stranded pirates wait for their friends, they’re attacked by a deadly Sea King lurking in the waters. While short and simple, the new One Piece anime original episode is nonetheless entertaining thanks to the humorous dynamic between Luffy and Law (there’s a reason why fans love this pairing so much) and the fantastic animation on display.
Many talented artists and animators worked on this new One Piece short. Still, one animator that fans will instantly recognize is Chansard Vincent, who worked on incredible animation sequences for One Piece in the past, as well as other anime series like My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen. As translated by @/DruMzTV1 on X (formerly Twitter), the key animators listed for the One Piece episode include Yoshikazu Tomita, Toshio Deguchi, Shigenori Taniguchi, Yoichi Mitsui, Kazuya Hisada and Chansard. Additional credits include Yasunori Koyama for storyboard and episode director, Keiichi Ichikawa as chief animation director and Masahiro Kitazaki as animation director.

Although the One Piece TV anime series is still airing new episodes, it took a break from adapting the “Egghead Island” story from the manga to allow Eiichiro Oda to advance the series further. This will provide more material for the anime staff to adapt in the future. Currently, the anime is airing a remastered version of the “Fish-Man Island” arc, with visuals on par with recent episodes.
The One Piece anime TV series and movies are available on numerous streaming services like Crunchyroll, Hulu and Netflix. New and previous chapters of the One Piece manga are available to read digitally via Viz Media and the Manga Plus app. A new One Piece anime TV remake is being developed for Netflix by Wit Studio. Season 2 of the live-action One Piece series is currently being developed by Netflix and is expected to air sometime in 2025.
