Three elevated lodges could soon replace static caravans at Whitehouse Leisure Park in Towyn, pending approval from Conwy Council.
Jonathan Seldon of Whitehouse Leisure Park Ltd has submitted a planning application proposing the construction of “treehouse” lodges, designed with dark grey horizontal timber cladding. The plan also includes parking spaces, a new internal access road, and a drainage system.
The proposed lodges are expected to introduce a new style of accommodation while maintaining the park’s overall capacity.
A planning statement submitted with the application notes that the elevated structures could help mitigate flood risks in the area, particularly in the event of seawater overtopping the existing coastal defenses.
“The designs are incredible,” said Seldon. “We are hopeful, subject to planning permission, this will be a high-quality, unique addition to Whitehouse Leisure Park.”
If approved, the lodges could reflect a broader trend in the UK’s holiday park sector, where operators are increasingly investing in premium and experience-driven accommodations.
Elevated and architecturally distinct lodgings—such as treehouse-style units—offer parks an opportunity to diversify their offerings, attract new guests, and potentially command higher rates.
“They are very high-spec and luxurious,” Seldon said in a report by NorthWalesLive.
“They are amazing sustainable structures suitable for families. Along with our ‘Wow Lodge’, which will soon be launched, they will feature a private swimming pool. They will attract more holiday guests to the resort, giving them something a little different.”
For caravan park operators and developers, projects like this highlight the growing demand for alternative accommodations that blend sustainability, exclusivity, and guest experience.
As the market evolves, investing in innovative lodging options may help businesses stay competitive while catering to changing consumer preferences. Conwy Council is expected to review the application in a future planning meeting.
