From Newspaper Delivery Boy To IAS
B Abdul Nasar, originally from Thalassery in Kerala’s Kannur district, faced immense hardship early in life, losing his father when he was just five years old. As a result, he and his siblings were sent to an orphanage, while their mother worked as a domestic helper to support them. Despite these struggles, Nasar completed his education, spending 13 years in the orphanage.
At the age of 10, he began working as a cleaner and a supplier for a local hotel to help make ends meet for his family. Later, he pursued his graduation from the Government College in Thalassery. Throughout his journey, Nasar took on various jobs, such as delivering newspapers, taking tuition classes and working as a phone operator, all in an effort to support his family.
In 1994, B Abdul Nasar began his professional journey as a government employee in the Kerala Health Department after completing his postgraduate studies. Over the years, through his unwavering dedication to public service and hard work, he steadily earned promotions. By 2006, he had ascended to the position of Deputy Collector within the State Civil Service.
In 2015, Nasar was acknowledged as Kerala’s best Deputy Collector, a distinction that paved the way for his promotion to the IAS in 2017. He went on to serve as the Housing Commissioner for the Government of Kerala before taking on the responsibility of District Collector in Kollam in 2019. The remarkable journey of IAS officer Abdul Nasar, rising from modest beginnings to achieving great success, stands as an inspiring and uplifting story for all UPSC aspirants grappling with similar challenges. In another important development, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the rescheduled date for the UPSC Civil Services Examination Prelims 2024. Initially set for 26 May, the exam will now take place on 16 June, following adjustments made due to the scheduling of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
