Novocaine star Jack Quaid is putting his real-life pain threshold to the test.

In a preview clip for Monday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the 32-year-old actor — who stars in the newly released thriller as a man who can’t feel pain — can be seen agreeing to let host Drew Barrymore wax his right leg in order for an audience member to win a special prize. 

“I’ve never waxed this before. Let’s do this,” Quaid said as he pulled back his pant to reveal his very hairy leg. When the audience let out a mixture of gasps and knowing laughs, he replied, “OK, calm down.”

Barrymore prefaced Quaid’s impromptu wax session by reminding him that she is very much “not a professional” in this field. “It’s probably not what you wanna hear right now,” she joked, to which Quaid responded, “That was the exact thing I wanted to hear right now. This is perfect.”

In fact, The Boys star said that the experience of having Barrymore spread hot wax on his shin was actually “quite relaxing” until he crowd began to giggle again, adding, “Oh, you’re all laughing like you know exactly how this is gonna go.”

As his nerves ramped up ahead of the big rip, Barrymore attempted to distract Quaid by asking him about how he recently hired a mariachi band to serenade his girlfriend, actress Claudia Doumit, for Valentine’s Day. “Well, I wasn’t in town so I wanted to surprise her with something, and I didn’t realize you can just hire a mariachi band to show up somewhere. And so they showed up to my apart—AHH!” Quaid yelled, curling forward and biting his knuckles after Barrymore pulled the strip off. “OH!”

He continued to sit in stunned silence for a moment as Barrymore gleefully held up the first wax strip, which was covered in Quaid’s leg hair. When he tried to speak again, Barrymore yanked the second strip from his leg, causing Quaid to let out a scream and throw himself onto the back of the couch. 

“Oh my God! Look at this patch!” He shouted, lifting his leg up close to his face to properly showcase its new hairless section. “That is smooth!” 

He also took a moment to express his appreciation for people who wax often. “Okay, not to generalize, but women do this a lot… you guys are heroes,” Quaid declared. “That was a lot. Wow!”

Quaid isn’t the first actor who has had the privilege of being waxed by Barrymore on her talk show. Last September, Armchair Expert podcaster Dax Shepard also got his leg hair removed so that the entire audience could all win a trip to Las Vegas. 

“Ahh!” Shepard shouted as Barrymore ripped the strip, before quickly recovering. “Not too shabby!”
