Solo Leveling’s Jeju Island Arc claims the lives of many S-rank hunters from Japan and South Korea, but who among them dies and survives?
What Happens in the Jeju Island Arc?
The Story So Far
The Jeju Island Arc takes place after the events of the Return to Demon Castle Arc, where Sung Jin-Woo finally defeats Baran, the Monarch of the White Flames, meets Esil, acquires the final ingredient of the Holy Water of Life, and obtains a job-specific skill called Shadow Exchange. While Jin-Woo is busy with personal business, South Korea and Japan engage in talks about a joint attack to claim Jeju Island once and for all.

A total of 16 S-rank hunters, excluding Jin-Woo, joined hands in a simple but promising plan. They are successful in ending the Ant Queen but soon discover her powerful offspring, the Ant King, who could easily turn them into a buffet. Out of the 16 exceptional S-rank hunters, only eight return alive after Sung Jin-Woo joins the fight and defeats the Ant King. Jin-Woo also reaches level 100 and obtains a key to the Cartenon Temple, in addition to extracting the Ant King’s shadow and naming him Beru.

Further Story Arcs Explored

Sung Jin-Woo will be the man of the hour, as the world becomes a witness to his immense strength and abilities. While many will be filled with feelings of redemption, some will criticize Jin-Woo for his last-minute arrival on Jeju Island. A funeral will be held to honor the lives of not just Min Byung-Gu, but also the other victims of the encounter. While the raid was a success, a new threat will soon endanger humanity and the rest of the world. For the first time, two Monarchs will appear in the aftermath of the raid, particularly the Frost Monarch and the Beast Monarch.

Recruitment Arc

Powerful nations, particularly the American government, will get in contact with Sung Jin-Woo in the hopes of employing him as one of their hunters, just like what they did to Hwang Dong-Soo. If Jin-Woo accepts their offer, the American government will immediately give him American citizenship and a particularly interesting reward that involves a woman named Norma Selner. This arc will test Sung Jin-Woo’s loyalty to South Korea, a nation with a dwindling number of S-rank hunters.
Ahjin Guild Arc

Instead of joining one of the more established guilds in South Korea, Jin-Woo will establish a new guild named after her sister, Jin-Ah. His decision stems from his desire to continue growing stronger by securing high-level gates one after another. Chairman Go Gun-Hee will also give his blessing to Jin-Woo and the Ahjin Guild to keep him from leaving Korea. Meanwhile, Jin-Ah’s life will be at risk when a dungeon break suddenly occurs at her school. This arc will solidify Jin-Woo as a one-man army capable of clearing dungeons by himself.
Double Dungeon Arc

Jin-Woo will finally go back to Cartenon Temple to find out the truth about the System and his powers. He will meet with the system’s architect, Kandiaru, and will soon find himself battling against the statues, including the one that resembles the Absolute Being. Out of concern for Jin-Woo’s safety, Choi Jong-In and Cha Hae-In will try their best to support Jin-Woo.
Japan Crisis Arc

Japan will face a huge crisis bigger than the Jeju Island disaster. A huge gate will appear in the middle of the busy streets of Tokyo and will result in a dungeon break in which countless giants will emerge. The remaining members of the Draw Sword Guild will get in touch with a Russian S-rank hunter who specializes in support magic to create a barrier that will block the monsters emerging from the gate. It will be up to Jin-Woo and the Ahjin Guild to clear the gate.
International Guild Conference Arc

Instead of the Hunters Guild, the Ahjin Guild will be invited to attend the International Guild Conference in America for the first time. Jin-Ho’s life will be at risk as Hwang Dong Soo holds him hostage despite Thomas Andre’s strong warnings. Jin-Woo will engage in a thrilling fight with Thomas, who’s actually one of the vessels of the Rulers.
Monarchs War Arc

The Monarchs will stop at nothing to exact revenge against the Rulers by killing their vessels one after another. Once again, Jin-Woo’s strength will be put to the test as not only one but three Monarchs will come to fight him at once. While Jin-Woo will be strong enough to end one of the Monarchs, he will need the help of his estranged father and the full power of the Shadow Monarch to survive.
Final Battle Arc

As the name of the story arc implies, the Final Battle arc will see Sung Jin-Woo fighting against Antares, the Monarch of Destruction, the strongest of his kind. It will be an all-out fight between the two characters, but only one of them will emerge successful.
All in all, the Jeju Island Arc of Solo Leveling is just the tip of the iceberg, which means Sung Jin-Woo is set to overcome more challenges and obstacles as the plot unfolds. Anime fans will have a lot of exciting fights to look forward to before Jin-Woo becomes the strongest being in the series.
