The Where I Live series aims to showcase our diverse city and region by spotlighting its many vibrant neighborhoods. Each week a local resident invites us over and lets us in on what makes their neighborhood special. Have we been to your neighborhood yet? Get in touch to share your story. If your story is selected and published, you will receive a $250 stipend.
Living in the King William neighborhood of San Antonio, there’s always something going on. With the River Walk just steps from my door, regular arts events and plenty of local small businesses, it’s hard to get bored.
I came across this neighborhood a few years ago when I started attending First Fridays at Blue Star Arts Complex. I’d also often bike ride with my grandpa around this area, and I fell in love with the charm and convenience of it all. It was hard to ignore how much there was to do right in one place. I was so drawn to the neighborhood’s energy and sense of community that I knew the next place I wanted to live had to be here.
Not only was I in love with the location, but I also moved closer to friends I was beginning to build stronger relationships with. We’ve become even closer through our weekly walks along the River Walk, and I’m so grateful for that time spent together. It’s made living here feel even more special.
One of my favorite things is grabbing coffee at Stranded Coffee, a cozy spot that’s become a go-to. If I’m in the mood for some local flair, I’ll swing by the markets hosted by the Brick venue or check out an art show or live music performance. There’s always something happening to keep things interesting.

What I love most about King William is its historical architecture. The neighborhood is full of beautiful, old homes, each with its own unique character. Every building seems to tell a story, and it’s inspiring to live surrounded by so much history. As a photographer, my morning walks are a constant source of creativity. Whether I’m capturing the way the light hits a historic home or simply taking in the details of the neighborhood, I never run out of things to photograph. There’s always something new to discover, no matter how many times I’ve walked the same streets.
This neighborhood is also incredibly walkable, which is something I really appreciate. Everything I need — cafes, restaurants, shops — is just a short walk away. I don’t have to get in my car to enjoy a day out, and that convenience really adds to the charm of living here. It makes daily life easy and relaxed, which feels like a luxury in car-centric San Antonio.

One of the things that really sets King William apart is its sense of community. People here are friendly and have a lot of pride in the neighborhood. It’s a tight-knit community where you’re bound to connect with others, which makes living here feel like home. That sense of belonging is one of the things I love most about the neighborhood.
King William has the perfect mix of culture, food, music and art. You can walk along the river, try out a new restaurant, check out an art show or catch a live music performance — all within a few blocks of home. The neighborhood’s strong commitment to supporting local businesses and artists makes it feel vibrant and alive.
King William has so much to offer, from beautiful architecture and creative spaces to a real sense of connection. It’s the kind of place where you feel inspired and engaged with the world around you. Living here has been such a rewarding experience, and I honestly couldn’t imagine calling anywhere else home. Whether you’re an artist, foodie, or just someone who loves a vibrant, walkable neighborhood, King William is a great place to be.
