After his time on The Green Hornet, Bruce Lee moved to Hong Kong, where he had developed a larger audience, and began starring in the kung fu movies he is best known for. Following the success of these films, Warner Bros. Entertainment produced Enter the Dragon alongside Golden Harvest, officially bringing the genre to Hollywood.

As per Tubi, Enter the Dragon is headed to the streaming service next week. The film will be available to stream on March 1, along with titles like Den of Thieves and The Equalizer. Enter the Dragon will be the third Bruce Lee movie to join Tubi’s expanding catalog.

Enter the Dragon Is a Cultural Phenomenon

Enter the Dragon follows Lee (portrayed by Bruce Lee), a Shaolin martial artist recruited to compete in a kung fu tournament run by the reclusive crime lord Han. After learning that Han’s men were responsible for the death of his sister, Lee becomes determined to defeat Han and take down his operation. Cementing its significance, Enter the Dragon was inducted into the National Film Registry in 2004.

Despite initial mixed reviews, Enter the Dragon is praised as one of the best kung fu movies of all time. The film introduced Western audiences to the martial arts genre and (posthumously) established Bruce Lee’s international legacy. Enter the Dragon originally premiered in 1973, and received a 4K restoration in 2023 for its 50th anniversary.

40 years after Enter the Dragon’s release, filmmakers reflected on the inspiration behind the iconic movie. Producer Paul Heller describes, “Comic books played a big part in Enter the Dragon. When we first started thinking about the look of the film, there was a comic strip called Terry and the Pirates, and that became sort of the genesis of the whole look of the film.”

“I don’t think we referenced existing martial arts films,” corroborated cinematographer Gil Hubbs.

Rumors surrounding a remake of Enter the Dragon have circulated for decades, first involving the attachment of Sons of Anarchy director Kurt Sutter and later with Deadpool 2 director David Leitch. There have been no updates on the remake since 2018. Original cast members and founding members of the Black Karate Federation, Grandmaster Sijo Steve Muhammad and Bishop Donnie Williams spoke about the potential remake, with Williams saying, “In my opinion, they’ll never match it. They’ll never be able to bring in any star today that could even make it a legend again.”

“There will never be another movie like Enter the Dragon,” Muhammad agreed.

Enter the Dragon arrives on Tubi on March 1.
